We all live within three miles of the bakery but have
taken very different paths to get here.

Owners David and Hannah are lovers of all things hilly. In 2018 having commuted most weekends to Swaledale from their base in the flatlands of Cambridge, they decided to move here permanently. They didn’t ever imagine translating their passion for food and hospitality into a day job, but the opportunity to start new careers that rooted them in their local community was too tempting to pass up. David is behind all the cafe food, whilst Hannah makes the bread and pastries with Colin…

Colin, our head baker, has worked as a pastry chef in leading hotels such as The Dorchester and in Michelin starred restaurants in London including Pied a Terre and The Orrery. He helped Jamie Oliver set up his Barbecoa restaurant in London and spent four years at the Hilton as head of specialist patisserie. Before joining us, Colin led the patisserie course at the Ashburton Cookery School in Devon and worked at the lovely Almond Thief Bakery in Totnes.

We couldn’t do what we do without our passionate front of house team - Aislinn, Alicia, Sarah and Susan - all of whom live in the the two dales of Swaledale or Arkengarthdale.
